Description
The Hornady Dangerous Game series is purpose-built for the world’s most demanding hunts — the kind involving thick-skinned game like elephant, rhino, and hippo where deep, straight penetration and maximum energy transfer are non-negotiable. Loaded in the classic .458 Winchester Magnum cartridge and driven by Hornady’s Superformance propellant technology, this round delivers a heavyweight 500 gr Dangerous Game Solid (DGS) bullet at a muzzle velocity of 2140 fps and a muzzle energy of 5084 ft lbs.
The DGS projectile is constructed around a hard lead/antimony alloy cone, surrounded by a tough copper-clad steel jacket. Its flat meplat profile punches straighter through heavy hide, dense muscle, and bone, transferring more energy than a traditional round-nose design and producing the kind of straight-line penetration professional hunters rely on when a charge comes through the brush.
Each round is loaded in a brass case and offered in a 20-round box, making it easy to stock the safe for a dangerous-game safari or to fine-tune a load for a heavy-frame double rifle. With Hornady’s reputation for quality and the DGS bullet’s proven track record on thick-skinned game, the Dangerous Game Superformance load gives you the confidence to put your shot exactly where it counts.
