TULA has an excellent performer on their hands with this 7.62×39 ammunition that gives shooters of the AK or SKS or other 7.62x39mm guns a leg up on the competition without increasing the price of the rounds. The reliability of the military surplus clone is excellent and the only problem most shooters ever see, if at all, is occasional light primer hits on guns that are modified to reduce trigger pull, poorly. Most factory firearms on these platforms will feed, fire and extract/eject 100% reliably or very close to it. The steel casing and the Berdan primer are actually part of what makes these rounds so good. The gun was built around the cartridge mechanics after the platform had proven itself – It’s why you see near flawless reliability on the SKS and AK platforms with steel ammunition, contrary to the beliefs many American shooters had in the past about steel cartridges.
This is actually a better round than the military surplus, too, because it offers a non-corrosive primer and powder, making cleaning a bit more predictable and much easier. The accuracy isn’t amazing but it’s more than adequate for the purposes you will be shooting for. You can generally expect about 2-2.5 MOA from these rounds and for sporting rifles in use as hunting weapons this should suffice for the moderately sized game you’d be going after. It is certainly more than acceptable for target use and plinking.
