Hornady Custom is not always the best-in-class from a performance perspective when you just look at the numbers, but that’s not the point. The point of the Hornady Custom line is to yield the best customized experience for the shooter who wants to shoot ammunition that is made in the most stringent production specifications and practically all by hand. In the case of the .30-06 Springfield in the Hornady Custom line, it is a very nicely positioned cartridge from a performance perspective, but it also has a certain quality of tight tolerances and a handloaded feel. You can see the extra effort that has gone into the load at the factory. When you shoot it, you can feel the work and the engineering coming together to deliver an experience that is unmatched by mass production ammunition.
The accuracy of this round is exceptional, with the potential for ½ MOA out of tuned firearms at 100 yards. The brass is top tier, and with the Boxer primer, you get a high-quality donor cartridge for future handloading. This is a 165 grain boat tail soft point bullet that travels at 2800 feet per second velocity at the muzzle and offers 2872 ft. lbs. of energy.
